In the Philippines, where poverty affects millions, advocacy group Ahon Mahirap Partylist is stepping up with a mission: to fight poverty and improve lives through financial education, economic opportunities, and social justice. Their goal is simple but powerful: a country where everyone has a chance to rise above hardship and build a better future.
At the core of Ahon Mahirap’s plan is the idea that true progress begins with knowledge. One of their key focuses is financial literacy—teaching Filipinos how to manage their money, save, and invest wisely. Through accessible seminars and workshops, the partylist helps families get on track with their finances. They’re even pushing for financial literacy to be included in school curriculums so future generations will be better prepared to handle their money and make smart financial choices.
But education is just one piece of the puzzle. Ahon Mahirap believes in giving people the tools to create their own success. Through programs focused on economic empowerment, the partylist works to open doors for people to start businesses and build stable incomes. By offering training in entrepreneurship and providing support for small businesses, Ahon Mahirap is helping families build long-term financial stability.
Social justice is another pillar of their mission. Ahon Mahirap is committed to ensuring that all Filipinos, no matter where they come from or their circumstances, have equal access to opportunities. One important policy they’re championing is the No Age Limit Policy for job applications. This would allow people to apply for jobs based on their skills, not their age. It’s a step toward making sure everyone can pursue their dreams, no matter their background.
Wilbert Tolentino, Chairman of Ahon Mahirap, sums it up perfectly: “Our mission is not only to fight poverty but to give every Filipino the tools to create a better life for themselves and their families. Through financial literacy, economic empowerment, and social justice, we can change the future of our nation. It’s time for a real, sustainable transformation.”
The leadership of Ahon Mahirap is just as diverse as their mission. Mayor Ike Ponce, who’s been the mayor of Pateros since 2019, brings years of experience in public service. Kristine Caballero-Aplal, the former beauty queen now serving as the President of Ahon Mahirap, is passionate about creating programs that benefit local communities. Along with them are individuals like Erimar Ortigas, a former overseas Filipino worker turned business expert, and Angelo Zipagan, a musician and the partylist’s Secretary-General.
But Ahon Mahirap isn’t just about big ideas—they’re already making an impact with several programs that directly support communities. The Ahon Malasakit program offers health, education, and livelihood support to families in need, while Ahon Bigas makes sure no Filipino goes hungry. Ahon Tindahan helps small business owners by providing capital and training to grow their businesses, and Ahon Kababaihan empowers women by giving them the skills and support they need to succeed.
Ahon Mahirap isn’t just another political party—it’s a movement for change. With their focus on financial literacy, economic empowerment, and social justice, they’re working to create a society where everyone has the chance to thrive. And with a dedicated leadership team, they’re ready to bring that vision to life.
As election day approaches, Ahon Mahirap invites every Filipino to be part of this mission. “Together, we rise,” they say.
