IF ELECTIONS were to be held today, Misfit Sara could win handily. Despite the absence of opponents, Misfit Sara has the popular advantage in at least five regions – the four Cebuano-speaking regions in Mindanao and the Central Visayas region. This is the imperative to create her political downfall before the 2028 presidential elections.
There should be an end when what could be regarded as the backward elements of Philippine society decide the political fate of this country. This is not easy but the political process should start to roll in the next two and a half years from now.
The political process could involve her impeachment, the second attempt after a year, and her removal from her current post as the vice president. If successful, this political initiative would disqualify her to run for any public office, including the presidency in 2028. The year 2026 is pivotal for Misfit Sara. This is a make or break year for her.
Misfit Sara’s ascendancy to the presidency, either by succeeding BBM, if he suddenly dies or gets incapacitated, or getting elected as president in 2028, is regarded as bad for the Philippines.
She lacks the essential qualities to lead the country. Misfit Sara is impulsive, irrational, and incompetent. She personifies politics of vengeance and shows a clinical case of bipolar personality disorder, when she could be gregarious and at peace with herself in one moment, but bellicose at a flick of the fingers. These are unsuitable qualities for a sitting president. She is simply unfit for any public office.
Moreover, Misfit Sara is perceived to be supportive of China despite its hegemonist tendencies in East Asia. Despite China’s frequent incursions into the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the West Philippine Sea, Misfit Sara has refused to speak against those incursions. She has not condemned China’s expansionist designs in the region and the country.
Like his father Rodrigo, who is currently under detention in a prison facility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Scheveningen in The Netherlands, Misfit Sara is regarded as a running dog of China, a sort of fifth column, who will defend China’s interest here at all costs. There are perceptions that Peking will do everything to ensure her victory in 2028 and these include not only political support for the Dutertes’ and their candidates, but surreptitious contributions of billions of pesos in her campaign kitty.
Not all political factors favor Misfit Sara. According to opinion polls, including the most recent ones, a little over 30% of respondents were looking for new leaders who could vie to replace BBM in 2028. They wanted a new leader to emerge to contest the likes of Misfit Sara and other leaders like Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan.
Several political scenarios, names, and combinations have been floated around, including the possible alliance of the dominant faction of the old Unity team and the democratic forces of the Pink and Yellow mode, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Senators Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, and DILG Jonvic Remulla have been prominently mentioned to contest Misfit Sara in 2028, but nothing concrete has developed so far.
What is clear at the moment is to clear the political environment of characters like Misfit Sara and her father’s minions like Bato dela Rosa and Bong Go, who are both complicit and involved in the bloody but ill-fated war on drugs that claimed the lives of at least 12,000. Bato is reported to have been hiding after Ombudsman Boying Remulla’s public disclosure that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant against him. There is no official confirmation on Boying’s revelation.
Bong Go is also facing crimes against humanity charges before the ICC. In the series of public hearings of the powerful Quadrilateral Committee (QuadCom) in 2024, Bong Go was said to be the main financier of Gongdi’s war on drugs. Key witnesses like Arturo Lascanas and Royina Garma pointed to Bong Go to have given reward money to the police officers involved in the extrajudicial killings (EJKs) of suspected drug users and traders in the failed war on drugs. Moreover, Sonny Trillanes has filed non-bailable plunder charges against him.
The immediate political objective could be reduced to a single sound bite: DUTERTE FREE PHILIPPINES 2026. Still, it will be a free for all in 2028, as no Misfit Sara or anybody else lording over the political scene.
BBM is perceived to be a son of the generation of the 1960s and 1970s, when the youth chose either to become political activists, who wanted to change the world, or pacifists, or “flower people,” who retreated from the turmoil to “make peace, not war.”
BBM is said to have been with the camp of the pacifists, who avoided political confrontation to favor the escapist route, to favor even the use of mood-altering drugs. Yet, it does not mean he would escape Misfit Sara’s wrath.
On the contrary, BBM could take the bull by its horns. He could be more decisive to take the initiative to remove Misfit Sara from public office. He will be bent to remove her despite the unimaginable political consequences.
Anybody but Sara is not a difficult choice and objective. But BBM can play all the political cards to kick her out of any public office now and in the future.
