Manama: The Agricultural Environmental Team of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) recently organized an awareness event entitled “Heat Awareness Day” on the occasion of World Heat Response Day, which falls on June 2 every year.
The event targeted the players of the Al-Malkiyah Sports Club Academy for the under-14 and 12-year-olds, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of preventing heat exhaustion and following proper health guidelines while practicing sports activities, especially with the high temperatures during the summer.
The event, which was held at the headquarters of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society, was presented by Dr. Nilofer Jahromi, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society and the head of the Agricultural Environmental Team and the Youth and Young Committee of the Society, in the presence of several members of the Society, volunteers, coaches and players.
During an awareness lecture, Dr. Nilofer Jahromi addressed the most prominent health risks associated with direct exposure to high heat, such as heat stress, heat stroke, and dehydration, in addition to explaining the early signs of these conditions and how to deal with them quickly.

The event included providing practical instructions to the players on the importance of drinking adequate amounts of water before, during and after exercise, the need to take regular breaks, wear appropriate sports clothes, in addition to avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, in order to contribute to maintaining their health safety and raising their level of preventive awareness.
Dr. Jahromi further stressed that this event comes as part of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society’s continuous efforts to spread the culture of prevention and community safety, and raise the level of health awareness among various segments of society, especially children and adolescents who practice sports activities in the open air.
“Through these programmes, the Society seeks to respond to emerging climate and environmental challenges, while promoting public health awareness and reducing the risks associated with high temperatures. We also underline the importance of closer cooperation between community and sports institutions to spread preventive awareness and help safeguard individuals during the summer months,” said Dr. Jahrami.
