Renowned doctor and social media personality, Dr. Willie Ong, has announced his candidacy for the May 2025 elections, despite being diagnosed with cancer.
According to Ong a Facebook Live session on Monday said he will run as an independent candidate and Dr. Anna Liza Ong will file his certificate of candidacy with the Commission on Elections.
“I’ll do it the cleanest way. Hindi tayo connected sa admin, Duterte, opposition…Ako lang mag-isa, no one else. If they help me, thank you. Pag hindi, thank you. Wala akong utang, wala akong hinihigi…Walang kapalit,” Ong shared.
Recently, Ong revealed that he has sarcoma cancer, which has not even weakened his intention to take public office.
In the elections in 2022, Ong was the vice-presidential candidate of Isko Moreno, the former Manila mayor under the Aksyon Demokratiko party, but they did not win. He also ran for senator in the 2019 election and was not elected to a seat.
A medical practitioner, Ong was a consultant for the Department of Health for several years from 2010 to 2014.
