In his first Lasuan competition since the 2024 Paris Olympics, EJ Obiena finished joint 3rd at the Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Obiena was tied for 3rd with Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen and Australia’s Kurtis Marschall as he likewise topped 5.82 meters in their first attempt but failed to clear 5.92 in all three tries at the Lausanne Diamond League.
Sixth was Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis who had the same clearance of 5.82 meters but he only hit the bar on his second attempt and failed to clear in three tries at 5.92.
Obiena is seeing action again following a heartbreaking near-podium finish in the Paris Olympics where she wound up fourth also with a 5.90 meter clearance but lost the bronze to Karalis in a tiebreaker.
Immediately after the Olympics, Obiena returned to Manila briefly to join other athletes in various activities, including the heroes’ welcome held at Malacañang.
