Recess time: The 19th Congress, which has been presided over by Senate President Francis Escudero, breaks into recess in October as it marks the start of the filing period for certificates of candidacy for the 2025 elections. The more than month-long recess arrives amid rumors of an alleged ouster plot against Escudero.
Despite some rumors, there is no formal motion to oust Escudero was raised before Congress adjourned for the necessary step needed to initiate a change of the senatorial leadership.
Escudero thanked his fellow senators and the staff as he acknowledged their hard work and wished them well during the recess.
Escudero has been informed of the speculation and said he was making no effort to investigate the matter, considering that such rumors are part of the political landscape.
Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito also downplayed the possibility, saying no one approached him about a change in leadership. He said he believes he would be among the last people to know since he’s part of the leadership in the Senate.
Senator Bong Revilla, on the other hand, was satisfied with Escudero’s leadership.
