House Committee on Infrastructure Chairman Terry Ridon warned that these government officials and contractors could face plunder charges and started investigating these so-called “ghost projects” that make up what has been termed the “flood control mafia.”
Ridon stated that this investigation is bound by the President’s mandate to scrutinize the flood control projects and find out which of them are nonexistent, of inferior quality, or overpriced.
It started with ghost and substandard flood control projects that cost about ₱55 million in Baliuag, Bulacan, where President Marcos found them during his inspection.
Another flawed project linked to St. Timothy Construction and Wawao Builders in Calumpit, Bulacan, was also pointed out by him. Ridon added that he will ensure thorough investigations of any abnormality in infrastructure programs.
In other developments, the committee served subpoenas to five contractors who absented themselves from Tuesday’s hearing. These included Royal Crown Monarch Construction and Supplies Corporation, SYMS Construction Trading, Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corporation, St. Timothy Construction Corporation, and Wawao Builders Corporation.
