Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. warned on Monday about a new voice phishing, or “vishing,” scam targeting its customers. In this scheme, fraudsters pose as officials from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to trick victims.
Said Globe, con artists call unsuspecting victims, telling them that their mobile number is linked to criminal activities. They then proceeded to blackmail the victim for money, indicating that they would be arrested if the victim did not cooperate.
The telco company appealed to its subscribers to be wary of solicited calls, and avert sharing confidential details including financial information. “Immediately report any suspicious activity to the authorities,” it appealed.
Globe reassured the public they are actively blocking numbers associated with such scams and works closely with the National Task Force (NTF) to combat an increasingly growing problem.
