Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has resigned as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, following reported dissatisfaction among fellow lawmakers regarding the panel’s inquiry into alleged anomalies in government flood control projects.
In his resignation addressed to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Lacson cited that several senators had expressed dismay over the “direction and focus” of the investigation, which some perceived as scrutinizing senators more than individuals in the House of Representatives, despite the alleged involvement of both groups.
Sotto confirmed receipt of Lacson’s letter, saying “with regret but with understanding.”
“I stand by the integrity of the committee’s work. Every action taken was anchored on evidence, not politics,” Lacson said, rejecting claims that the investigation was selective. He also reiterated that he has no intention of pursuing any higher political position after his term expires in 2031.
The move comes shortly after the Blue Ribbon Committee decided to pause its hearings, citing delays in the submission of crucial documents and scheduling conflicts tied to deliberations on the 2026 national budget and the Commission on Appointments.
