The Manila International Film Festival announced that Lea Salonga will be included in the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026 in recognition of her contribution to theater, film, and music throughout the globe.
Lea is a Tony Award-winning performer known for her role in Miss Saigon and has lent her voice to several famous Disney princesses such as Jasmine and Mulan.
She has also distinguished herself in the movement for the representation of Asians in Western entertainment.
Salonga commented, “This honor is not just for me. It’s for every artist who dared to believe they belong.”
Lea will be joining another list of celebrities with Filipino blood: Apl.de.ap (Black Eyed Peas, honoree of 2021/2022), comedian Rob Schneider (2011), and singer Bruno Mars (2016).
This year, the Walk of Fame honorees were selected from hundreds of nominations beginning June 20 and approved by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce board on June 25.
As far as Peter Roth, chair of the Walk of Fame selection committee, is concerned: “These talented individuals have made significant contributions to the world of entertainment, and we are thrilled to honor them with this well-deserved recognition.”
