LeBron James recorded history with a terrific 42-point performance while being just the second 40-year-old to score 40 or more points in an NBA game. The Los Angeles Lakers overcame the Golden State Warriors by 120-112 last night.
James’ 17 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 three-pointers pushed the Lakers to their fourth straight victory and 10 wins in their last 12 games.
Michael Jordan had previously set the record for being the oldest to play with 43 points when he was with the Washington Wizards, defeating the New Jersey Nets on February 21, 2003. This was four days after his 40th birthday. Given that he turned 40 on December 30, James now shares this unique honor.
Austin Reaves contributed 23, while Gabe Vincent added 15, with five three-pointers. Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes both scored 11, with Jarred Vanderbilt taking down 14 rebounds for the Lakers.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 37 points and seven assists, scoring 19 in the fourth quarter and making four three-pointers (finishing 6-of-20 from beyond the arc). Buddy Hield contributed 15 points, Moses Moody 14, Pat Spencer 13, and Draymond Green 12 for Golden State.
The newly acquired NBA stars Jimmy Butler and Luka Doncic of the Lakers were left out due to calf and shoulder conditions.
The Lakers connected for 50% from the field, including 13 of 35 from three-point range, adding to another important win as they rely on form.
