A state of calamity has been declared in the entire Metro Manila due to the widespread flooding and heavy rain that is still pouring due to typhoons Carina and Habagat.
The Metro Manila Council adopted the resolution to declare a state of calamity yesterday afternoon to confirm the recommendation of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos.
According to Abalos, his recommendation came after getting various reports from mayors in the NCR.
The area in metropolitan Manila is almost submerged in flood water, especially in the cities of Caloocan, Navotas, and Malabon, due to Typhoon Carina.
The MMC meeting, where Metro Manila Council President and Juan Mayor Francis Zamora, led by DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, moved to declare a state of calamity in the NCR, was supported by MMDA head Romando Artes and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
It was first revealed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that he is in favor of placing the entire Metro Manila under a state of calamity due to the extent of its flooding.
Its LGU reserved funds are almost exhausted so they need to get help from the national government.
