PH pole vaulter & Olympian EJ Obiena is set to compete in another match with Mondo Duplantis in the Wanda Diamond League Leg in Lausanne Switzerland Thursday night, August 22, Manila time.
Obiena will be facing Swedish gold medalist Duplantis, American silver medalist Sam Kendricks, and Greek bronze medalist Emmanouil Karalis in a Battle Royale, at least according to the entry list published on the event website.
Obiena came home earlier than scheduled for several activities lined up, among them having his financial incentive at the Manila City Hall, having a homecoming at Chiang Kai Shek College, and a reception at Malacañan Palace. Obiena added on his social media post that the country is experiencing the “golden era” of sports.
Recently, Obiena had slipped to no. 3 in world rankings after placing fourth in the Paris Summer Games.
