Senate President Chiz Escudero reassured that it would not rush its impeachment trial against Sara Duterte and would do it in the spirit of fairness and diligent consideration.
Addressing the assembly, Escudero asserted that the Senate would approach the trial with courage and fairness, according to the report from Darlene Cay on 24 Oras Weekend.
“The articles of impeachment are now in the hands of the Senate, and we are now kept under a special task as an impeachment court,” he said.
The Senate will be tackling it when Congress adjourns its session on June 2.
Meanwhile, Joel Villanueva said he is willing to attend the special session if called. However, some senators indicated they were not going to call for one.
In the meantime, one of the 11 House prosecutors for impeachment, Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua, expressed the hope that the Senate would act swiftly on it.
The next few weeks will see the impeachment trial watched by many.
