The UST Growling Tigresses did in pulling off a thrilling reverse sweep over the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors on Sunday to stay unbeaten in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship.
UST came back from a two-set deficit to stage an amazing reversal sweep here at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, pulling off a 23-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-9 victory.
Angge Poyos was named a UAAP Rookie of the Year, springing on strong spirited ties of 3-1 to stem a four-point deficit from tying at 29-29 in the decisive set. Poyos scored eight of UST’s important points in the decisive set as she ended with 28 points, punctuated by the last spike for the win.
The loss was UE’s first in the tournament if one would consider their overpowering start in the first two sets. However, the Lady Warriors were not able to thwart the determined UST rally.
UST advances now in the next phase of the tournament, unscathed, and front and center in championship competition.
