The Senate has approved the ₱6.793 trillion national budget for 2026 to which marks an important step in the country’s budget process.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian called the approval and ratification of the 2026 budget historic. Pointing out that this is the first time the ratification of the 2026 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) has gone as late as December 29.
After the ratification, the Senate plans to submit the final report from the bicameral conference committee on the 2026 national budget later today.
In his speech, Gatchalian noted that the education sector will receive the largest share of the budget next year, totaling ₱1.35 trillion. He stressed the need to prioritize education as an important investment in the country’s future.
The senator also assured the public that measures have been put in place to ensure that every peso in the budget will be used for its intended purpose. This aims to promote transparency and accountability in government spending.
