OSAKA, Japan — Low-cost carrier Jetstar Japan is strengthening its international footprint from Kansai International Airport (KIX) this winter as it resumes flights to Manila, Philippines, and maintains its existing Kansai–Taipei (Taoyuan) service. The move positions the airline to capture the resurgence of regional air travel and growing demand for affordable international connections across Asia.
Effective October 26, 2025, Jetstar Japan began operating up to seven weekly round trips between Osaka and Manila using its Airbus A320 fleet. The service re-establishes a vital air bridge linking western Japan and the Philippines — a route popular among overseas Filipino workers, students, and leisure travelers. With this development, Jetstar Japan now operates two active international routes from Kansai during the 2025–2026 winter schedule, which runs until March 28, 2026.
The airline’s renewed expansion signals confidence in the continued recovery of regional tourism and mobility. According to Kansai Airports Group, international flight operations are projected to reach record highs this winter, with over 1,700 weekly international flights — a clear indicator of strong post-pandemic demand. Travel analysts note that Jetstar Japan’s strategy reflects a broader trend among low-cost carriers aggressively restoring international capacity to tap into pent-up leisure demand and sustained inbound tourism to Japan.
Industry observers also point out that Jetstar Japan’s timing aligns with the Philippines’ robust outbound travel market. Data from the Philippine Department of Tourism show a steady increase in Filipino visitors to Japan, bolstered by visa relaxation measures, favorable exchange rates, and the popularity of Kansai destinations such as Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. The new service is expected to make travel more accessible, stimulate tourism spending, and support both nations’ economic linkages.
Jetstar Japan’s dual-route operation from Kansai underscores its strategic shift toward network diversification and market recovery. As competition intensifies among regional carriers, the airline is positioning itself to capture value-conscious travelers seeking reliable and affordable international options. Passengers can now book winter flights through Jetstar’s official channels, with promotional fares and bundled travel packages expected to roll out in the coming weeks.–Cali Demi
