Riot Games has announced a major change that will affect Southeast Asian League of Legends (LoL) players: in 2025, servers for the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia will merge into one SEA server.
The server merger will take place on January 9, 2025, preferably alongside patch one of League of Legends Season 1. According to Riot Games, this merger aims to enhance matchmaking by allowing for faster queue times and better-balanced matches by making the player pool larger across the region.
The decision was to provide too with the best possible experience for each game played while simultaneously bringing together more players across the region.
Moreover, Players need not do anything during the transition. Account content like progress and cosmetics will automatically transfer over. The only accounts that will not transfer over are the Clash accounts.
In-game purchases themselves will still be conducted in the local currencies that they have been, making for an overall seamless transaction experience.
Players in the Philippines may notice an increased ping of about 20ms. However, Riot assured the players that this latency is very much comparable to what is already being experienced in VALORANT and thus should not markedly impact gameplay.
The merged SEA server expects to connect players across borders to enhance overall game quality in the region. With this work, Riot moves to police League of Legends to enable an imbrication of a Southeast Asia community.
