The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has issued a warning regarding the potential for debris to fall into the waters between Ilocos Norte and Cagayan following the launch of the Chinese Long March 7A rocket.
In a memorandum dated June 25, the NDRRMC notified relevant government departments about the scheduled Chinese rocket launch, which was set to take place from June 28 to 30.
Authorities have indicated that China has identified a debris drop zone approximately 75 nautical miles (NM) off the waters of Burgos and 126 NM from Sta. Ana.
The NDRRMC has recommended that relevant government agencies consider implementing temporary restrictions, notifying mariners, and issuing coastal navigation warnings to ensure the safety of individuals near the identified drop zones.
The Philippine Coast Guard has also been advised to issue notices to seafarers about the designated drop zones starting at 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Additionally, the NDRRMC has stated that the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) does not advise people to approach or collect debris due to the potential risk of harmful compounds such as rocket fuel residue.
