Just when you thought the zombie genre had nothing left to offer, here comes Lisik Origin Point—a Filipino zombie-action flick ready to infect cinemas on February 19, 2025. Because, obviously, what high school drama really needs is a side of flesh-eating chaos.
Meet Kara (Grace Rosas Tayo), a senior high schooler still mourning her bullied-to-death brother. Her bestie Elisha (Nika De Guzman) is out for revenge against school menace Max (Jeremiah Allera). Sounds like your typical teen drama—until a mysterious infection turns their school into a zombie buffet. Now, instead of dealing with algebra, they’re dodging classmates who suddenly crave human flesh.
Turns out, the outbreak isn’t some random curse—it’s the result of a shady scientific experiment. Because, of course, nothing ever goes wrong with secret lab experiments in horror movies. Elisha manages to uncover the truth, hands over some top-secret files to Kara, and then—big surprise—joins the undead.
Director John Renz Cahilig proudly introduces us to the “Lisik”—his own take on zombies. Why the name? Well, because their eyes look crazy (nanlilisik), and every franchise needs its own zombie label. If The Walking Dead has “walkers” and The Last of Us has “clickers,” then Filipinos now have “lisik.” Cute, right?
The brains (or should we say the remaining human brain) behind this madness is Dominic Orjalo, a school owner and educator who wants to spotlight young Filipino talent. He knows the zombie genre is overcrowded but believes Lisik has something new to offer. “We won’t know if we don’t try, right?” he says, which is also what every horror movie scientist says before everything goes wrong.
For those tired of the same-old rom-coms and superhero flicks, Orjalo promises Lisik Origin Point is a mix of horror, action, and—yes—emotional trauma. Plus, the cast is solid, and the visual effects are set to impress.
And if you’re thinking this is just a one-and-done apocalypse, think again—Cahilig teases that Lisik might be the start of a bigger cinematic universe. Because, let’s face it, nothing ever stays dead in the zombie genre.
The film also features Rosemarie Smith as the scientist-teacher who started this mess, Ramon Christopher in a special role, and a supporting cast ready to fight for their lives—or, you know, become zombie chow.
