MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Olympic champion Carlos Yulo qualified for the floor exercise and vault finals at the 54th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, strengthening his bid to add more medals to his international collection.
The 26-year-old double Olympic gold medalist secured second place in the floor exercise qualifications with a score of 14.500 and sixth in the vault with an average of 14.266 over the weekend.
Yulo’s qualification came less than a month after his two-gold-medal performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, further boosting expectations for another strong showing on the world stage.
The floor exercise final is scheduled for Saturday, while the vault medal round will take place on Sunday.
In the floor exercise final, Yulo will face several formidable rivals, including Russian gymnast Arsenii Dukhno, who topped the qualification round with 14.700 points. Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat scored 14.300, while Great Britain’s Jake Jarman posted 14.133.
The vault final will also feature a strong field, led by Jarman, who recorded an average of 14.633, and Armenian rival Artur Davtyan, who registered 14.663.
Another world title would add to Yulo’s collection of major international medals. He previously won floor exercise gold at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, and captured vault gold medals in Kitakyushu, Japan, in 2021 and Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2025.
Yulo had a less successful campaign in the men’s individual all-around, finishing 34th with 77.631 points.
His younger brother, Eldrew Yulo, placed 84th in the individual all-around with 67.032 points and failed to qualify for any apparatus finals.
Carlos Yulo will now focus on converting his qualification performances into medals as he pursues another successful campaign at the world championships.
