The Workers’ Party Philippines (WPP) is in active negotiations with several political parties to form a coalition for the upcoming 2025 elections. As a party focused on improving the rights and conditions of workers, expanding the middle class, and advocating for key labor reforms, the WPP recognizes that collaboration is essential to achieving its goals for the common good. At the Party convention yesterday, Atty. Sonny Matula, head of the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), was elected WPP President. The Party also announced his senatorial bid. “We don’t look at ourselves as Supermen or Superwomen,” said WPP President Atty. Sonny…
J&T Express Workers went on strike in Cabuyao last year. They triumph in securing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement last Friday.
The Federation of Free Workers (FFW), one of major labor centers in the country, is deeply honored and profoundly grateful to be included among those in the Philippine labor movement recognized as recipient of the esteemed George Meany–Lane Kirkland Human Rights Award from the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The 2023 recipient is the Philippine labor movement. This award, given annually, recognizes dedication to and effectiveness in highlighting the widespread denial of fundamental human rights at work and in society. The Philippine labor movement which FFW is a part is humbled to be acknowledged for…
MANILA – The Federation of Free Workers (FFW) commends Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa for his prompt action following the State of the Nation Address (SONA), where the commitment to expedite the disbursement of health emergency allowance (HEA) to front-line health workers was emphasized. Under Republic Act No. 11712, health care workers (HCWs) are entitled to a monthly HEA equivalent to P3,000 for those working in low-risk areas, P6,000 for those in moderate-risk areas, and P9,000 for medical front-liners in high-risk places. HCWs are supposed to receive these benefits for the duration of the state of calamity attributed to the COVID-19…
The Nagkaisa labor coalition declared to continue pushing for the labor agenda despite zero mention of wage hike, contractualization, public employment program, and ending trade union repression in the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Marcos, Jr. President Marcos bragged about solving the inflation problem as his main accomplishment but the reality of high prices of basic goods and services remain. The real value of the new minimum wage of P610 (from P570) in NCR stayed at P515, meaning…
Sana marinig ni President Marcos, Jr. oOo As we listened to Marcos there is no worker-related bill included in the priority legislations. No wage increase, no end to contractualization, no upholding the right to unionize! The focus is purely on new taxes, new sources of revenue, new…
