With Mika Reyes sidelined due to a right shoulder injury, attention shifts to Majoy Baron as she steps up to fill the void in the PLDT High-Speed Hitters’ front line.
No less than head coach Rald Ricafort is confident that Baron can fill in for Reyes, expecting her to take on a more significant role in the upcoming Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
Expressing confidence in Baron’s abilities, Ricafort previously emphasized her potential to compensate for Reyes’ absence during the PVL Media Day.
Baron, in return, expressed gratitude to Coach Ricafort for his trust and guidance, recognizing the support and unique approach he brings to her game.
“Of course, I’m thankful sa trust ni Coach Rald, kasi kahit sa training pinapakita niya sa akin ‘yun, and marami akong natututunan sa kanya since iba ang approach niya sa knowledge na mayroon na ako,” said Baron.
“I’m willing to step up.”
Having joined the PLDT squad during the off-season alongside former teammates Kianna Dy and Kim Fajardo, Baron is well aware of the high expectations surrounding her performance in the upcoming conference.
The 5-foot-11 middle blocker from Concepcion, Tarlac, is prepared to embrace the challenges and contribute significantly to the team’s success.
“Of course, malaking role ang ifi-fill in ko kasi isa ‘yun sa mga naging reason kung bakit ako nag-PLDT kasi kailangan nila ng middle dahil nga magsu-surgery si Ate Mika,” said Baron.
“May bigger role to fill in and ready lang ako kung ano ang ibigay sa akin na job ng coach kasi I trust the system, I trust the management. And kung ano man ang role na ‘yun,” she stressed.
