In a seismic event reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Batangas province experienced a significant magnitude 5.0 earthquake.
The tremor, of tectonic origin, occurred around 8:24 a.m., approximately five kilometers southwest of Calaca, within the same province.
Phivolcs director Teresito “Toto” Bacolcol disclosed that the quake had a depth of focus measuring 14 kilometers.
Initial assessments indicate Instrumental Intensity 5 was recorded in Lemery, Batangas, while Intensity 4 was reported in Cuenca, Bauan, Sta. Teresita, and San Luis, Batangas, as well as Tagaytay City, Cavite, and Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila.
Additionally, Intensity 3 was recorded in Laurel, Batangas City, Batangas, and Dolores, Quezon.
Anticipating both infrastructure damage and potential aftershocks, Bacolcol emphasized the need for vigilance following this seismic activity. (PAN)
