Several suspected members of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s alleged private army, a group branded the “angels of death,” have been identified, according to the Philippine National Police on Monday.
PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said that Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, chief of Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11), gave the list of persons believed to be members of the group.
However, Atty. Israelito Torreon, legal counsel for Quiboloy’s religious group Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), aired a strong rebuttal, saying that there is no private army connected to Quiboloy.
Earlier, the PNP said that some of the minors who were said to be inside the compound of KOJC, were claimed victims of sexual abuse, indicated how they have already been threatened with being harmed by the “angels of death” if they speak about it.
Fajardo said the PNP is still investigating whether army reservists and militiamen, who reportedly serve as bodyguards to Quiboloy, formed part of this alleged private army. The police are also working on revocation of the gun licenses of the identified members.
In related developments, the PNP has finalized a medical assessment for Quiboloy as part of his application for hospital arrest in Davao City. Quiboloy is detained at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, while four of the co-accused were recently transferred to Pasig City Jail.
