President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is said to make a quick decision on the courtesy resignations of his Cabinet members, according to an announcement by Malacañang on Friday.
The resignations were tendered after the president called for a cabinet-wide recalibration after the 2025 midterm elections. According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro, Marcos will consider each official’s performance and record on corruption when determining who will be part of his administration.
“Hindi ko masasabi yung timeline pero ang sabi nga ng Pangulo gusto niya mabilis. So, dapat mabilisan din ito. Makakaasa sila na mas mabilis ang pagde-decide patungkol dito,” Atty. Claire Castro told GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita in an interview.
“Unang-una, siyempre, ayaw ng mabagal ng Pangulo. Yan ang nireklamo niya, ayaw niya maging mabagal ang trabaho ng administration. At the same time, may mga issues ng korapsyon. So isa yan,” she added.

The courtesy resignations came after statements made by Marcos earlier that week, in which he indicated that he wanted to refocus the direction of his government following the results of the May 2025 elections. He also noted the increasing public disillusionment with politics and governance.
“People are tired of politics and disappointed with the government,” said Marcos. “This move is part of the effort to renew public trust and accountability.”
In the 2025 midterms, six out of the 12 senators elected were backed by Marcos via his political alliance Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas. These include Erwin Tulfo, Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Pia Cayetano, Camille Villar, and Lito Lapid.
A few Cabinet members have already resigned following the directive of President.
The League of Cities of the Philippines expressed its support for the President’s course of action with a statement backing the call, indicating their “solidarity with the President’s leadership and vision for a more effective government.”
Marcos has yet to mention either retained or newly appointed Cabinet members, but whether the decision will be without delay has already been assured by Malacañang.
