Senator Imee Marcos must clarify her political stand. According to Iloilo 1st District Representative Janette Garin, this is after the senator did not attend the campaign rally of the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas because of his protest against the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Though Garin recognized the sentiment that Marcos had about the issue, she insisted that the senator must decide.
Marcos, although part of Alyansa’s administration, continued to defend the Dutertes while they openly fired attacks against her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to Garin, no single political strategy stands for supporting two sides opposed to each other. She warned that Marcos risks losing her followers either among the Alyansans or the Duterte’s.
Marcos offered her apology for failing to show up for the Leyte rally and explained that she could not accept what had happened to Duterte.
The former president was arrested as soon as he landed in the Philippines and was quickly airlifted to The Hague to face prosecution at the International Criminal Court for alleged violations of human rights.
According to Marcos, Duterte’s case is similar to her father’s exile after the 1986 People Power Revolution.
