The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) will impose a stricter transport rule to be enforced at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) due to the taxi overcharging incident.
The incident involved collusion among some white taxi drivers who charged the passengers outrageous fares, leading to the dismissal of five airport police.
The case attracted attention after it went viral on social media and was forwarded to the Department of Transportation, prompting immediate action from the airport authorities.
NNIC is now conducting an audit of all accredited transport systems operating within NAIA, which has accountability for passenger safety.
As part of an airport transport scheme improvement, NNIC has a centralised transport hub partnered with Grab and Joyride Super Taxi pick-up services since December 2024. This scheme helps to eliminate any irregularity in passenger pick-ups and fare extortion.
They also added some CCTV cameras, and security personnel have been deployed in the airport terminals to enhance monitoring and enforcement.
Airline authorities are urging passengers to only use accredited forms of transport for their safety and comfort.
Aside from Grab and Joyride, NAIA also commenced a free inter-terminal shuttle bus running every 15 minutes for passengers with connecting flights.
