The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced that students will soon benefit from a 50% fare discount on train rides. In preparation, dedicated student lanes have already been set up at train stations for those purchasing single journey tickets.
According to the DOTr, these exclusive lanes are intended to speed up ticket transactions and help students avoid delays, especially during peak hours, ensuring they arrive at school on time.
Recently, Senator Raffy Tulfo, Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services, also expressed concern over the inconvenience caused by long lines and the slow process of validating student discounts at train stations. He recommended the establishment of separate ticket booths exclusively for students to further ease congestion and improve their commuting experience.
The exact implementation date of the 50% fare discount has not yet been announced, but it is expected to begin very soon. The DOTr urges students to present valid school IDs to access the discount and encourages them to use the designated student lanes.
Commuters and students are advised to stay tuned to official DOTr announcements for the final implementation date and further updates on student-friendly transport initiatives.
