- New ferry service marks a historic step in regional connectivity, boosting tourism, and social ties.
Manama: In a landmark event for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) integration, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar today inaugurated the region’s first international passenger sea link. The new ferry line, operated by MASAR Group, connects Saadah Marina on Muharraq Island to Ruwais Port in Qatar, significantly enhancing travel options between the two nations.

His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, stated that the project is a direct result of the comprehensive development vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

“This strategic project embodies a wise vision to elevate our transport system and expand the horizons for joint Gulf cooperation,” said H.E. Dr. Al Khalifa. “It paves the way for increased maritime travel, facilitating movement for citizens and residents, supporting tourism, and strengthening the social and cultural fabric between our brotherly peoples.”

The Minister emphasized that the ferry service represents a significant investment in the marine tourism sector and a boost to the national economy, aligning with the principles of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. He also commended the collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Interior, led by H.E. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and expressed profound thanks to the Qatari authorities for their partnership in ensuring the project’s success with the highest safety and security standards.

The inaugural voyage was welcomed in Qatar by H.E. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Transport, in a ceremony underscoring the strong fraternal relations between the two countries.
Efficient and Modern Travel Experience
The MASAR Group, a subsidiary of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, will operate the service. The journey between Saadah Marina and Ruwais Port will take approximately 70 minutes, offering a swift and convenient alternative to air and land travel.

Mr. Hussain Mohammed Al Qaseer, Chairman of Masar Group, noted that the launch is part of Mumtalakat’s vision to support national projects that develop transport and tourism infrastructure. “MASAR is committed to contributing to the national economy and diversifying the economic base through such strategic initiatives,” he said.
Engineer Yousif Khalifah Al-Mana, Chief Executive Officer of the MASAR Group, confirmed that travelers can easily book their journeys through a dedicated electronic application. “We are proud to operate this new sea line and are dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, and high-quality travel experience for all passengers,” he said.

The inauguration of the Bahrain-Qatar passenger ferry line is seen as a qualitative leap in Gulf maritime connectivity, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and facilitating the movement of individuals within the GCC.
