The Bureau of Customs, Manila Container Port, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency staff have seized shabu worth P56 million in a Balikbayan box from Thailand.
The officials confiscated 8.30kg of shabu, estimated to be worth P56.40 million.
According to the report, those mislabelled balikbayan boxes contained household items, shoes, and motorbike parts.
As a result, the consignees, senders, and recipients of balikbayan boxes will be facing charges violating Sections 118 (prohibited importation and exportation), 1400 (misdeclaration), 1113 (property subject to seizure and forfeiture) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
