Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) released a turnaround in June rates, saying that consumers may expect a P1.9623 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Meralco stated in an advisory on Sunday that the power price cut was caused by the adoption of staggered generating cost collection from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).
Meralco customers should see a decrease in electricity rates, rather than the P0.6436 per kWh rise announced earlier this week.
The adjusted rate is P9.4516 per kWh lower than the previous month’s P11.4139 per kWh for a typical household.
Meralco also stated that the adjusted cost for this month incorporates a P1.8308 per kWh reduction in generation price.
Despite the downward adjustment in June, Meralco stated that customers might expect increased generation charges in the next three months.
