THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) recently incinerated illicit drugs and controlled precursors, valued at over P5.9 billion, at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. in Cavite. This destruction encompassed 1,019,204.7581 grams of various substances, primarily 471,478.0639 grams of shabu, 312,993.9424 grams of marijuana, and 208,909.00 grams of Dimethyl Sulfone.
Remarkably, it included 274 kilograms of shabu seized at the Manila International Container Port on Oct. 6, 2023, and 208 kilograms of Dimethyl Sulfone recovered by the National Bureau of Investigation on Aug. 25, 2023.
The thermal decomposition process, utilizing extreme heat of up to 1,000 degrees centigrade, effectively dismantled the chemical compounds, aligning with Republic Act 9165 and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation 1, Series of 2002.
Witnessed by officials, law enforcement agencies, and NGOs, this marks a substantial stride in PDEA’s relentless fight against drug abuse.
PDEA previously conducted the nation’s largest drug destruction event seven months ago, disposing of P19.9 billion worth of illegal drugs in Cavite. (PAN)
