Several transport associations, including Pasang Masda, Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations, and Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, have jointly petitioned the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for a fare increase.
Their proposal includes a P5 minimum fare adjustment, which encompasses a P1 provisional raise.
Traditional jeepneys would see their fares rise to P13 from the current P12, while the primary petition aims for a P17 fare for the initial four kilometers and a raise in the succeeding kilometer rate to P2.80 from P1.80.
The LTFRB, considering economic implications, has urged formal petition procedures, requiring government review for fairness.
