MANILA, Philippines — The Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, is expected to bring cloudy skies and scattered rains over parts of Luzon on Friday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA is also monitoring two low-pressure areas outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), identified as LPA 08F and LPA 08H. Both systems have a medium chance of developing into tropical depressions within the next 24 hours.
Also outside the PAR is Severe Tropical Storm Saudel, which was last located approximately 2,735 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.
Saudel has maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness of up to 115 kph. It was moving northwestward at 25 kph.
Meanwhile, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan and Batanes are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the influence of the Habagat.
PAGASA warned that moderate to occasionally heavy rains associated with the southwest monsoon could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas were advised to remain alert and monitor updates from PAGASA and local disaster management authorities.
