In a recent earthquake that hit Mindanao, the Meralco Electric Co., through One Meralco Foundation (OMF) has mobilized relief assistance to those communities affected.
In a statement on Wednesday, OMF said that they started distributing food packs, bottled drinking water, and solar lanterns to those affected residents and institutions in General Santos, Sarangani, and affected nearby areas.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Southern Mindanao, especially the families, communities, health workers, emergency responders, and utility personnel affected by this earthquake,” said Ronnie L. Aperocho, Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Meralco and OMF are coordinating with local partners to deliver aid to hospitals, evacuation centers, and communities requiring urgent assistance.
Included in the initial beneficiaries include St. Elizabeth Hospital, Socsargen County Hospital, and other health facilities that requested drinking water and emergency supplies. Also, relief assistance for affected coastal communities including Glan, Sarangani is being prepared.
Meralco also offered power restoration assistance to South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SOCOTECO II), whose franchise covers General Santos City and parts of Sarangani and South Cotabato.
