The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced an P85 daily wage increase for minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR), benefiting approximately 1.1 million workers across Metro Manila.
On Tuesday, June 30, DOLE Secretary Francis Tolentino said the wage hike is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve workers’ salaries.
The total P85 daily increase will be implemented in two phases. The first tranche, amounting to P60, will take effect on July 19, 2026, while the remaining P25 will be granted in January 2027.
“The private sector will receive the highest daily wage increase of ₱85, and it will be released in two installments,” Tolentino said.
With the increase, the current minimum daily wage in the NCR, which stands at ₱695, will eventually rise to ₱780 once the second tranche takes effect.
DOLE also said it will continue conducting assessments and consultations in compliance with President Marcos’ directive for other Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards to begin reviewing wage levels within 60 days before the anniversary of their existing wage orders.
The department also reminded employers to comply with the new wage order. It assured the public that, through the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) and the regional wage boards, it will conduct information campaigns to ensure compliance and help prevent wage distortions. –CristalA
