MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala continued her preparations for the US Open by training with former doubles partner and tennis icon Venus Williams ahead of the Grand Slam tournament’s singles competition.
The US Open posted a video showing Eala and Williams during their practice session.
Eala previously teamed up with Williams at the Bad Homburg Open in June, where they reached the quarterfinals, and at the Canadian Open earlier this month.
The world No. 18 has previously expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to learn from Williams, who has described Eala as a “world star.”
Eala is now awaiting the singles draw, where she is expected to receive her highest seeding in a Grand Slam tournament.
The Filipina star recently competed in the mixed doubles event with world No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime. The pair lost to Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, 4-1, 4-1.
Eala is also set to participate in the “Stars of the Open” fan week activity, where she will face her close friend Iva Jovic in an exhibition match.
Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the USTA Foundation.
Meanwhile, Williams and her sister, Serena Williams, received wildcard entries to compete in the US Open doubles tournament.
