The Department of the Interior and Local Government, DILG, is pushing to have visibility of barangay tanods inside schools as an added security measure for students.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said, barangay tanods are familiar with their own communities and even the young people studying, saying they can contribute with surveillance and check-ins if something comes up.
This is tied to the agreed upon agreement between DILG and the Department of Education, DepEd, to tighten security around school premises, especially after the shooting incident in Zamboanga City.
Remulla also explained that the police presence is mostly limited to outside and around schools, saying that the idea is to add more protection inside the campus.
