Instrumental in guiding Petro Gazz to victory in the PNVF tournament on February 10, the Filipino-American outside spiker had already showcased her prowess to the Filipino audience, securing both the Most Valuable Player and 1st Best Outside Spiker awards.In her PVL debut, the standout from the University of Hawaii demonstrated her skills with seven points and 10 digs, propelling the Angels to a commanding 25-12, 25-20, 25-12 victory over Strong Group.Despite the win, Van Sickle acknowledged experiencing a bit of tension and first-game jitters.“I felt we’re a little tense, not really flowing as well. Probably first game jitters a little bit, but it’s still really good to be able to start PVL with a win, ” the 5 feet 8 inches power hitter said as she reflected on the challenges of the debut.
She found some comfort in her experience in the PNVF but acknowledged that the transition to the PVL brought its own set of nerves.
But Van Sickle stressed that she is optimistic about the upcoming challenge, emphasizing the need to address the issues that lingered against Strong Group Athletics, despite the decisive straight-sets victory in just 68 minutes.
Looking ahead, the Angels are gearing up for a significant showdown against last conference’s runner-up, Choco Mucho, scheduled for next Tuesday.
“Choco Mucho, they’re a very good team, and we’re gonna expect a really good fight, and we just have to go through this week working extremely hard and continue to push that team chemistry,” she said.
