The Quezon City government declared the other day that classes in public schools should be automatically suspended when the temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius.
Public schools will base their decision on the forecast heat index released at 5:30 p.m. for the next day.
In this regard, based on the latest forecast of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a peak of 40ºC was expected in Quezon City yesterday.
“When it reaches 40ºC and heat, the alternative delivery modes of learning (synchronous /asynchronous) will be automatically implemented,” according to the Quezon government in the advisory.
On Wednesday, the Department of Education said that nearly 4,000 schools across the country have implemented alternative learning methods due to the high heat index being felt in some parts of the country.
In this regard, a total of 1,393,806 students were affected by the suspension of in-person classes.
