President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., supported the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the establishment of the National Cybercrime Training Institute to further intensify the expertise of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the fight against cyber crimes.
The president held a meeting with DILG, DICT and PNP officials on Tuesday, where they were tasked with strengthening cybersecurity systems and honing the police’s skills through training and technology.
Based on the DILG’s report to the president, the structure and composition of the board of trustees for the National Cybercime Training Institute has been completed and DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos is expected to sign the documents for it this month.
In the meeting held, the PNP reported to the president that the recorded cases of cybercrimes were too high in the last quarter of 2023.
Cybercrime cases are handled only by the regional level, and President Marcos Jr. wants the police, even in the police stations and municipal level to be trained. (NEIL JOHN)
