The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported there were no OFW fatalities during the latest earthquake that hit Taiwan, early Tuesday morning.
Following earthquakes of magnitudes 6.0 and 6.3 that shook Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 2:26 a.m. and 2:32 a.m., the DMW stated it has alerted its Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taiwan.
The DMW added that the MWOs are working with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) to contact other Filipinos, agencies, trade associations, and employers to determine the status of some OFWs.
Silvestre Bello III, the chairman of MECO, stated that there are around 200,000 Filipinos living in Taiwan, with 1,400 of them residing in Hualien and are already used to earthquakes in Taiwan.
On April 3, Taiwan was struck by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake that left 16 OFW fatalities. DMW said, all 16 Filipinos received proper medication and were discharged from hospitals.
