According to the Department of Migrant Workers, there are no OFWs were hurt and were safe during a recent earthquake that hit Taiwan on April 27, 2024, Saturday.
At 2:21 a.m., an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 shook northeastern Taiwan, according to Taiwan News.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), the epicentre of the first earthquake was 23 km northeast of Hualien County Hall and had a shallow focal depth of 24.9 km.
In Hualien County, Yilan County, Nantou County, Taichung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, and New Taipei, the earthquake’s intensity was recorded at 4. Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Hsinchu, Taipei, Taitung County, Miaoli County, and Chiayi all had intensity level 3.
Meanwhile, Keelung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Penghu County reported an intensity level of 2. Pingtung County, on the other hand, had an intensity of 1.
The DMW office and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are working with Filipino communities to ensure the safety of OFWs.
