The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has formally opened a new service hub for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong to cater to the needs and well-being of the Filipino community over there.
OWWA declared the news through its official Facebook page, wherein the recently opened OFW Global Center will house a space both safe and welcoming for Filipinos to relax, seek help, learn new skills, and enjoy some downtime.
Of note is the Migrant’s Brew Coffee Shop that forms part of this center, where OFWs can snuggle up with coffee and unwind.
It will be managed under the OWWA office in Hong Kong, headed by Welfare Officer Marilou Sumalinog.
According to immigration statistics from Hong Kong, as of 2023, there are about 190,000 Filipino foreign domestic helpers working in the city, which is equivalent to 57% of all foreign domestic helpers in the city.
The launching of this new hub reflects the continuing dedication of OWWA to making improvements to its services in support of Filipino workers abroad, especially in those areas with a significant presence of migrant communities.
