Pope Francis has appointed a Filipino priest, Reverend Romeo Duetao Convocar, as the third Bishop of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa in the Northern Mariana Islands.
Monsignor Convocar hails from Janiuay in Iloilo but is stationed at Tamuning, Guam, as the parish priest of the Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores Church and belongs to the clergy of the Agana Archdiocese in Guam.
Monsignor Convocar thus takes over from Bishop Ryan Jimenez, appointed to head the diocese of Agaña in Guam earlier this year.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, announced during the 40th-year celebrations for the diocese.
According to a statement from the Holy See Press Office, Msgr Convocar was born on 13 April 1970 in Janiuay, Iloilo, the Philippines.
This confirmation by CBCP News reflects the strong representation of Filipino clerics in leadership roles across the global Catholic Church.
