In a statement on Saturday, the government of Quezon City said the two new cases involved males aged 29 and 36 years who are currently under home isolation and receiving medical treatment.
The first case in the city was only reported last week.
For the second patient, symptomatic manifestation started last August 21, specifically a lesion in his mouth. The second patient then consulted last August 22 and had his mpox testing last August 28. The test turned out positive last August 30.
Following this confirmation of new cases, contact tracing was initiated by QCESD. Already, close contacts have been put under observation.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte urged her constituents to be cautious against the disease.
There are eight active mpox cases nationwide as of September 1, according to the DOH before the latest announcement from Quezon City. The MPXV clade II virus, described as a milder variation of the virus, caused infection in all these cases. In total, the Philippines has recorded 17 mpox cases since last July 2022.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa earlier said that with suspected mpox symptoms can undergo free testing in government facilities to confirm whether one is infected with the said virus.
