TV host Ryan Bang celebrated his 35th birthday in a meaningful way.
Instead of throwing a birthday celebration, the It’s Showtime host chose to give back by donating to the victims of the recent earthquake in Mindanao.
Ryan shared that ever since becoming a regular host of It’s Showtime in 2010, he had been setting aside ₱1,000 every month. Over the years, his savings reached ₱190,000, which he had originally intended to spend on his birthday.
Instead, he added another ₱10,000 to make it an even ₱200,000 and donated the entire amount to help those affected by the devastating earthquake.
Ryan said his heart was broken after seeing the devastation on the news.
“The roof of an elementary school collapsed… I felt so sorry for the children,” he said, referring to Mahayahay Elementary School in Davao, which was severely damaged by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake.
Thanks to Ryan’s donation, the school’s damaged walls and roof were repaired—a gesture that the school principal gratefully acknowledged.
