SAN FRANCISCO, California — Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is expected to finish his NBA career with the team, according to general manager Mike Dunleavy.
Dunleavy said Curry has expressed a strong desire to end his career in San Francisco, where he has spent his entire 17-year NBA career.
“Staying has always been the message,” Dunleavy told reporters. “That’s what he’s always talked about. I think that’s tracking quite well.”
Curry is entering the final season of his current contract, which will pay him $62.5 million. The situation could provide flexibility for both sides if they eventually discuss a new deal or other options.
Dunleavy said Curry has earned the right to decide how he wants to finish his career, including the possibility of requesting a move. However, he emphasized that neither the Warriors nor Curry are currently looking at a future away from the franchise.
“If he came to me and wanted to move, Joe (Lacob) and I would talk it through. We wouldn’t love it. But he’s earned the right to do what he wants,” Dunleavy said.
Curry has previously said he wants to play for several more seasons, although injuries have become a concern. After appearing in at least 70 games in consecutive seasons, he was limited by injuries during the 2025-26 campaign and made just 41 starts.
The Warriors and Curry could also discuss a contract extension after Aug. 29, when he becomes eligible for a potential two-year extension worth up to an additional $136.7 million.
The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and 11-time All-NBA selection turned 38 on March 14.
Dunleavy reiterated his confidence that Curry’s desire to remain with Golden State has not changed.
“Two things I know about Steph: He really wants to win, and he wants to finish his career as a Warrior,” Dunleavy said. “I don’t think that changes tomorrow, Aug. 29, start of the season, middle of the season, end of next season. Those things will be consistent.”
The Warriors finished the 2025-26 regular season with a 37-45 record.
