The trough of Tropical Depression Kiyapo, combined with the prevailing southwest monsoon (Habagat), is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over large parts of the country on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 5:00 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said Tropical Depression Kiyapo was estimated at 950 kilometers east of Central Luzon. The weather disturbance has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 55 kilometers per hour, while moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.
PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, the Babuyan Islands, Kalinga, Ifugao, the eastern and central portions of Mountain Province, the eastern and central portions of Ilocos Norte, and the northern portion of Ilocos Sur.
The trough of Kiyapo and the southwest monsoon are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, the Negros Island Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro.
PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in flood- and landslide-prone communities. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, as severe thunderstorms could bring sudden flooding and other weather-related hazards.
Based on PAGASA’s latest forecast track, Tropical Depression Kiyapo is expected to move closer to Northern Luzon and may approach or make landfall over Cagayan between Friday and Saturday, July 24–25, if it maintains its current track. The weather bureau urged the public to continue monitoring official advisories, as the cyclone’s path and intensity may still change.
